Leadership and Me

As I am completing my senior year and I reflect on the multitude of leadership classes I have taken and am currently taking, I am figuring out where I fit in it all. I have realized that the type of leaders I admire and aspire to be tend to be very confident people who have three things in common: drive, compassion, and knowledge. The reason I chose a flower theme for my blog is not just for its aesthetic appeal, but because I feel it embodies a lot of who I am and my leadership values. Like flowers we are always growing and eventually we bloom into who we are and who we are meant to be. Each one different and beautiful in our own ways. All my leadership classes are guiding us to grow into strong leaders but with our own individual flare. And when I think of flowers I think of all the work that goes into keeping them alive and growing. Choosing the right soil, knowing when and how much to water them, making sure that they are getting enough sunlight…etc. It requires dedication, attention and tending to, much like being a leader for others. If you ignore your team or only remember them when it is convenient for you, it will not help them grow. If you do not know how to cater to their individual needs, working with them effectively and efficiently will not happen. Somethings work for some people but not for others. Of course, there is a lot more to being a leader than just growing flowers, but it requires the same basic values as growing a flower. I want to be the leader who grows by helping others grow. A leader who is dedicated, caring, attentive, and knowledgeable.
