Though there are many traits I look for in a great leader, the top six I value the most are: drive, kindness, passion, knowledge, accountability, and emotional intelligence. To me, a true leader has the internal motivation to accomplish goals and succeed. They will do whatever it takes to get them where they want to be, however, with the limitation of not running over people in the process. They are kind to their team and truly care about their wellbeing, growth, and success. A true leader has to have to passion for what they are leading. A quote from La La Land captures this perfectly, “people love what other people are passionate about.” Passion inspires. In addition, they have to have the industry-specific knowledge, by being competent in what they do and in what they ask others to do. They are also chaser of information and of understanding to enhance their knowledge. A true leader is also accountable. When things don’t go as planned, they take full responsibility. And when things do, they attribute the success to others. Lastly, they understand other humans by being aware of why people are the way they are and do the things they do.
